Question

Front AI Agent for Candidate Prescreening & ATS Updates

Hey everyone! 👋

Does anyone know if we can set up a Front AI Agent specifically as a candidate prescreening agent?

Here is the exact workflow we are looking to achieve:

  1. Prescreen Applicants: The Front AI Agent interacts with applicants in Front to ask our required prescreening questions.

  2. Update Candidate Status in ATS: Based on their answers, the AI Agent automatically updates the candidate's status in our in-house ATS (e.g., "Prescreened", "Qualified", or "Disqualified").

  3. Add Recruiter Notes in ATS: The AI Agent logs recruiter notes in their ATS profile, including a brief summary, key responses (salary expectations, availability, work eligibility), and the full transcript.

Does this setup work with Front AI Agents, and what would we need on our end to connect the AI Agent to our in-house ATS?

Looking forward to your guidance! Thanks!

Hi Shekinah! Yes, this workflow should be achievable with Front AI agents, though the ATS integration pieces require building an external agent rather than using Front's native Autopilot.

Here's how each part of the workflow maps to Front's capabilities:

Prescreening conversations Front AI agents can handle the full back-and-forth with applicants in any channel — asking questions, evaluating responses, and deciding next steps. You'd set this up by configuring the agent's instructions with your exact prescreening questions and decision logic (Qualified / Prescreened / Disqualified criteria). Conversations can be auto-assigned to the agent via rules so it picks up new applicants without manual intervention.

Updating ATS status and logging notes This is where Front's native Autopilot hits a wall — it doesn't support third-party integration actions. To write back to your in-house ATS (status updates, recruiter notes, transcripts), you'd need an external AI agent: bring your own agent built on Claude, Codex, or a custom solution, connect it to Front via the MCP server, and give it the tools it needs to call your ATS's API. The external agent communicates with Front over MCP and can take actions in Front (send replies, update fields) while also calling out to your ATS.

What you'd need to build on your end:

  1. An external AI agent — built on your preferred AI provider (Claude, OpenAI, etc.) with the logic to evaluate prescreening answers and make the Qualified/Disqualified determination.

  2. ATS API access — your in-house ATS would need to expose endpoints for updating candidate status, writing notes, and logging transcripts; your agent calls those directly.

  3. MCP connection to Front — a company admin creates a private developer app in Front, configures OAuth scopes, and points your agent at mcp.frontapp.com/mcp. From there the agent is treated like any other teammate — it can be auto-assigned conversations by rule and @mentioned as needed.
