We are using hubspot for most of our current automation and processes. Can I use a automation rule to generate a task in Hubspot when XYZ conditions or do I need to create an API for that?

Front’s HubSpot integration allows you to connect your HubSpot account to front so that you can display, create, and edit customer records from your HubSpot CRM. The integration currently doesn’t support creating Tasks.

As an alternative, you may find that a workflow tool like Zapier allows you to configure additional functionality: https://help.front.com/en/articles/2356
Another workaround would be to build the functionality yourself based on the Front and HubSpot APIs. Webhooks are a useful way to trigger this from Front:
