Are you planning to add support for Expo for React Native in the future?
Our team uses Expo to build and ship our mobile app, and we’ve historically used Intercom (which already has an Expo plugin). We’re considering switching to Front but the lack of Expo support makes the potential switch a big headache.
Hi Kavalcio,
Front doesn’t have any libraries for Expo at this time. I can create a feature request for you if you can describe your use case in more detail. Are you looking to integrate our chat widget into your mobile app?
Yes, we have a React Native mobile app that we build through Expo. We want to start using Front at an organization-wide level and part of that is integrating the Front Chat Widget into out mobile app. Based on the Android/iOS integration docs for the chat widget (https://dev.frontapp.com/docs/install-the-chat-widget-in-an-android-app), looks like there are some native code changes required to get this working.
Expo works by dynamically generating all native app code based on a set of config options. To do that, it needs a plugin for each third party node library that requires native code changes. The plugin instructs Expo on what native changes need to be made during the build for Android and iOS respectively. We could build the plugin ourselves, but our team does not have java/kotlin/swift proficiency so right now this is a blocker for us when it comes to using Front.
Does that answer your question?
Absolutely and thank you for your detailed response! I have created a new feature request in our Ideas portal:

Feel free to create your own feature requests as well!
